Hi there. I own a Toyota RAV4 What could it be? Thank you. I can push the button on the console in my iM and it says Traction Control off. Pushing it again produces the same message. How do I know when its actually on as there is no indication on my dash display. Trac Sca have come on my dash board. What does this mean?
The indicator light is also on say check the engine. What do I need to do? Yesterday the Trac off light came on. I pressed the Trac button but turn on but that does not help it. Not sure what to do? Any suggestions?
Today the Trac off light came on. I pressed the Trac button to turn it on but that does not help. I have a toyota 4runner the vsc trac vsc off and also the check engine lights are came on.

Give us the details and we'll tell you if it's a good one. Evaluate my deal. Did you get a great deal? Meet your fellow owners in our Owners Clubs. December edited April in Toyota. The last time we got gas in NJ, the attendant did not close the gas cap properly and the check engine light went on. We have now tightened the gas cap and the light is still on.
It appears we have to take the van to the dealer to get it checked up could cost 75 dollars or more. Seems like a steep price for silly mistake of a loose gas cap. The van has about 40, miles and any ideas on what the problem could be.
I would especially like to know if any of these would still be covered by warranty. Just curious. December When this happened on my Lexus I was told it could take several days and even a tank of gas to clear the check engine light after I didn't tighten the cap one time.
It will take several drive cycles to clear a CEL caused by a loose or malfunctioning gas cap. But if you do the latter don't take it for an emissions test until several drive cycles have elapsed. Thanks for everyone who responded. It did turn out to be the loose gas cap code "P" or something.
This time the dealer did not charge me anything, but somehow I get the feeling he will not be as nice the next time. So we will be double careful every time we get gas. Thanks Nagesh. I think it's about time that the engine's computer should get things right.
I mean, with all the advanced technology today, can't we have a dedicated "loose gas cap" light on the dashboard? Isn't that rediciolus? We can thank our government for that. ODBII requires the idiot light because they want people to go to the dealership to fix it, since it might affect emissions. They basically assume the vehicle owner is not smart enough or ethical enough to do the right thing and fix it.
I heard that the new model Siennas have a seperate "loose gas cap" indicator light, but I have not personally confirmed that. There is a lose or improperly tightened cap indicator light on the Sienna Limited.I have a Toyota Sienna with 16, miles.
I use it as a camper mainly for trips. Got into a tight spot and had to do a turnaround and my cargo luggage attachment on the back bumper rubbed a tree and hung the van up a little before I pressed on the gas. Took a small piece of the bark off the tree. Immediately after the trac off and engine light came on.Discord js kick user from voice channel
Nothing has worked. Any ideas on what might be able to solve my problem? So, find out why the Check Engine light is on, remedy that problem and the Trac off light will turn off.
The trac control sensors on each wheel can give a false reading to the engine after a medium skid, rough terrain event, etc. I feel pretty certain it is not an engine problem. Only data matters.
Get the codes read as a first step to fixing it. Anything else is just a guess. Post the actual codes here and we will try and help. It will take me a day or so to be able to get the codes. Something I left out, once I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and then reset the ts and cg terminals, restarted the van the check engine trac off lights went off.
After driving a few minutes they came back on. I shut off the van and hold down the trac button and restart and the lights are off. After a short time the lights come back on.
Read other posts where they have gotten ECM codes for replacement of the canister or replace engine. It may be necessary, after you satisfy the computer nothing is wrong, to use a scan tool to turn them off. I doubt the tree incident did much in the way of permanent damage to the drivetrain. Finally was able to do the scan, got one code P, cylinder 6 misfire detected. Took my new battery out of my RAV and put in the Sienna prior to the scan. For example if you swapped the spark plugs between cylinder 6 and 5, and the misfire moved from 6 to 5, excellent chance the problem is a faulty spark plug.
Coils, injectors, wiring, etc are all possibilities for swapping. Misfires can also be caused by low cylinder compression. I may need to beef up the gas, it has been sitting in there for a few months now. Reconnected the battery and reset the ts and cg terminals.
Added some gas treatment. The engine light came back on after a few minutes. Did the ODR2 scan again and removed the pending codes got rid of the check engine light but got a new code P, engine coil f primary control circuit open.
The van sounds good, idle is at the correct speed so hope this will eventually stop tripping….Check engine light came on with VSC Trac off. Scan said P Is it the Castyst converter? KMac answered about a year ago. I've replaced all 6 coils but lights keep coming back on and staying on. Let me know if you find anything out. GuruWQFW5 answered about a year ago. JMoGeo answered about a year ago. Just took my Sienna to the mechanic with same issue - check engine, VSC, and track off all were coming on and off together, but intermittently going back off for day or two over the last couple of weeks.
They said its a failing ignition coil. DSMTech answered about a year ago. Fredh answered about a year ago. Remove positive battery cable, reconnect after 10 minutes. This forces reset of error codes and usually fixes problem. MyVan answered 8 months ago. Here's what happened to us.
Fix 1 : Oxygen sensor. Air filter assembly needed because that is where the O2 sensor was located.
That fixed the problem for 1 month. The van started running rough and kept getting worse. Fix 2 : Front ignition coil replaced. Mechanic said that the running rough and then better was because of how the wires were sitting.Forums New posts Search forums.

Does anyone know what this can mean? I'm sure it has something to do with the traction control and I will check my fuses later today to start but I want to find out if this is an easy fix before taking to a mechanic to scan. I did a search earlier but I guess I used the wrong words.
I found a few other threads that seem to match this one and will check a few simple things out. This can be a variety of problems. Before taking things apart and replacing parts you need to have the engine codes read. Many auto parts stores will read the code for no charge. I will have to get it read. For your information there is no traction control on this economical vehicle.
Well, on the same day Feb 29th I made sure gas cap was on correctly and disconnected battery for a few minutes and the light cleared. I did fuel up just recently when the light came on.
If it comes back on I will have it read. Thanks for the feed back. In addition to the check engine light, you may get other warnings such as VSC and Trac Off coming on. Other common symptoms that you may notice include:. If you are experiencing any of the described symptoms it is an indication that your engine is not running as it should.
See the step-by-step instructions and video in the next sections. Write down all the codes and research all codes online. Don't start replacing parts on your Toyota based on the fault code only. Consult a mechanic for advice if necessary.
check engine light and trac off
Toyota check engine light can come on for many reasons. Let's take a look at common problems that trigger the check engine light on a Toyota. Most Toyota vehicles require the spark plugs to be changed between 90, andmiles. If you don't change your Toyota spark plugs at this interval, they will eventually fail to cause the check engine light to come on.
In addition, you will most likely get engine misfire where the engine starts to shake. If you are experiencing rough idle, lack of power or hesitation on accelerations, it is likely that your engine is running lean.
Most Toyota engines have mass airflow sensors. This adds some complexity and a possible vacuum leak makes throws off readings from the MAF. Another usual problem is a false reading from a dirty MAF sensor. Don't use anything else than MAF cleaner fluid for cleaning.

Check that you have installed the gas cap. Check engine light on Toyota Camry, 4Runer, Highlander with V6 engines can be due to a stretched timing chain.
